RASEI 2009/10 Seed Grant Application

Application Preparation

Deadline: Midnight, December 18, 2009

You must use this online submission form to submit your proposal. When you're ready, click the "Start Application" button at the bottom of this page.

The application requires the following information:

  • Project Title

  • Project Director & Principal Investigator (may be the same) name, phone number, and department

  • E-mail Address: Directions for updating your proposal following submission will automatically be sent to the e-mail address that you provide for the "Project Director," so please be absolutely sure it is the correct address for managing your RASEI Seed Grant application.

  • Collaborators (name, role, institution, department) whose participation significantly expands the scope and or direction of the proposed research or creative work

  • 2009 RASEI Research Symposium Poster Title & Number

  • Amount Requested (up to $50,000)

  • Research Support Overlap: Is there any scientific or budgetary overlap between your active research support and this pending seed grant application?

  • Principal Investigator Details: name, highest degree, department, and rank

  • Selected honors and awards (500 character limit)

  • Representative Scholarly Work or Publications Relevant to this Proposal: Be sure to highlight those published works that are directly relevant to your ability to carry out the proposed project. (700 character limit)

  • Other Research Support: Identify currently active support, or support that will be active as of July 2010. Include agency, amount, project title, and award duration. (500 character limit)

  • Other Project Requirements (yes/no answers):

    • Recombinant DNA?

    • Biohazards?

    • Human subjects?

    • Animal subjects?

    • Proprietary, restricted or classified research? (If yes, please describe.)

  • Project Description - A document (or documents) containing the following:

    • Project Summary: Provide a concise lay summary of the project and explain how it will foster future research vitality - scholarly and/or artistic - at CU-Boulder. (1 page maximum)

    • Research Plan: Briefly describes the aims, significance, methods, and expected outcomes of the project, highlighting how it involves a new and creative direction for the researchers and has the potential for establishing new research directions and/or for high future payoff. Proposals should use clear writing appropriate for non-specialists and make a strong case for the importance of the project to those outside the area of study. (3 pages maximum)

    • Project Budget: Clearly itemize, by category, the major expenditures that will be required to carry out the proposed project. No overhead or indirect costs may be included. (1 page maximum)

    • Budget Justification: Concisely provide a justification of the items requested in the budget. Focus particular attention on providing a justification of items listed in your budget that may not be obvious to reviewers who are familiar with but are not experts in your specific field of research or creative work. Include how much/who/what. (1 page maximum)

Keep the following in mind when creating documents to upload with your application:

  • Documents should be formatted to optimize on-screen readability.

  • Arial 11-pt (or larger) font required.

  • Include the PI's name and the year of application within the document title, e.g., CKovalResearchPlan2010.pdf.

  • Use the PDF file format if possible. There are several free PDF creators available.

  • Microsoft Office .doc and .xls formats are acceptable, but please avoid using the newer .docx format.

As you work on each page of the RASEI 2009/10 Seed Grant Application, it will be automatically saved after you click the "Next/Submit" button, so that you may return to complete (and update) it at any time before the deadline without losing any of your previous work.
